At the beginning of the movie Oscar Wilde as a baby is supposed to be left by a spaceship at a house door. And when he is in the primary school he claims that he wants to be a pop idol when being an adult (In fact it was David Bowie who said that before becoming famous).
At the end of the movie, Curt Wild gives Arthur a pin, which -he says- “belonged to Oscar Wilde”. That pin was found by Jack Fairy in his school patio (the same school Oscar Wilde attended to) and Brian Slade stole it to him and then he gave it to Curt.
What I don’t know is how did Jack know it belonged to Oscar if he found it. Who could have told him? Some of the costumes are based in a Victorian style.
Many of the quotes from the characters are taken from Oscar's writings. Here are some examples: "For once there was an unknown land, full of strange flowers and subtle perfumes, a land of which it is joy of all joys to dream, a land where all things are perfect and poisonous." "Put out the torches! Hide the moon! Hide the stars!" [From “Salome”] "Softly, he said, I will mangle your mind..." "Women defend themselves by attacking, just as they attack by sudden and strange surrenders" [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] "There were times when it appeared to Dorian Gray that the whole of history was merely the record of his own life, not as he had lived it in act and circumstance, but as his imagination had created it for him, as it had been in his brain and in his passions. He felt that he had known them all, those strange terrible figures that had passed across the stage of the world and made sin so marvelous and evil so full of subtlety. It seemed to him that in some mysterious way their lives had been his own." [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] "I knew I should create a sensation, gasped the Rocket, and he went out." [From “The remarkable rocket”] "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person! Give him a mask and he'll tell you the truth!" [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] "The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history." [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] "Nothing makes one so vain as being told one is a sinner." [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] "A real artist creates beautiful things and puts nothing of his own life into them." [From “The picture of Dorian Gray”] (For more quotes see the Quotes section) |
